Pregnancy Massage
Most women study and research many, many hours to be the best mothers that they can be, once their precious baby or babies are born. Nowadays, many pregnant women have the opportunity and exposure to some incredible techniques and tricks of excellent self-care in preparation for the "big day." If you are pregnant or have been pregnant, you know just how important it is to have some pain-relieving and stress-reducing tools in your self-care bag. You are, after all, carrying some precious cargo so be sure to take care of yourself throughout your pregnancy. If you are not aware of some of the benefits of massage during pregnancy, here are some that are good to know.
Purpose & Benefits:
Most pregnant women find that they are the most uncomfortable near the end of their pregnancy. Suddenly their hips hurt, the lower back hurts, the shoulders hurt and they are having a difficult time sleeping. If this is you or you want to keep all of that at bay, than massage is a great way to pamper yourself into a state of relaxation. Benefits include but are not limited to, increased circulation, improved mood, pain reduction or elimination, reduced inflammation and generally a healthier pregnancy. Always ask you OBGYN doctor or mid-wife to be sure that massage therapy is good for your specific pregnancy.
Who Can Benefit?:
When I worked in a few posh spas, they had a rare accommodation for pregnant women wanting massages but they didn't think they could enjoy one because they would have to receive it on their side. Well, I have never forgotten how much this accommodation transformed the experience of receiving a prenatal massage. It is a special table addition by Earthlite that allows a pregnant woman to actually lay on there stomach. Yes, you heard me correctly! There is a cutout for the pregnant belly and for potentially enlarged breasts. How awesome is that! This table addition is really comfortable helps to essentially hold the pregnant belly and take pressure off of the areas that are pulling forward. It's like receiving a non-pregnant massage and it is divine. I liken it to receiving a massage on a cloud. This is something that is included in every prenatal massage.
So if you are ready to relax and receive a massage on a cloud, take a some relaxing deep breaths and schedule your massage with me. You, your body and your baby with thank you!
